Netflix snaps: time travel thriller with “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds does not come to the cinema

After it was first announced that Ryan Reynolds would travel through time instead of Tom Cruise in “Our Name Is Adam”, the film is now finding a new home – on Netflix. Amazon is also likely to grab a current movie.

It wasn’t that long ago that we were finally able to report news about “Our Name Is Adam”. Eight years after the project was announced (at the time with Tom Cruise in the lead role), the time 123movie adventure is finally picking up speed – even if instead of Cruise, “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds will ultimately appear in front of the camera for the film .

With this innovation last April, however, we still assumed that nothing should stand in the way of a cinema release – when the whole thing with Corona has calmed down again. However, we did the math without the streaming giant with the red “N”, because Deadline now reports:

Netflix has taken “Our Name Is Adam” under the nail – and will offer the film exclusively on its streaming platform.

Agent action with Ryan Gosling: This will be the most expensive Netflix movie of all time

So it is not entirely out of the question that the film will be shown on the screen, but there will probably not be more than a mini-theatrical release, such as “Roma”, “The Irishman” and “Marriage Story” . The streaming giant’s action films in particular (including “6 Underground”, “Extraction” and “The Old Guard”) didn’t even appear on the screen.

In all likelihood, we will only see “Our Name Is Adam” in the home theater.

That’s what “Our Name Is Adam” is about

At the center of the story is a man (Reynolds) who travels back in time to work with his 13-year-old self. Because with its help he wants to destroy the time travel program that makes his trip possible for him.

The author Jonathan Tropper, known for series like “Warrior” and “Banshee”, is currently working on the latest and hopefully the final draft of the script, which Shawn Levy (“Real Steel”, “Stranger Things”) will then film.

Before the shooting, which is scheduled for 2021, will hopefully take place as planned, the first collaboration between Reynolds and Levy awaits us – at least according to the current status – shortly before Christmas with “Free Guy” (theatrical release: December 10, 2020). In it, Reynolds’ character states that he is actually part of a video game. The moody trailer sets the mood for the adventure:

Ryan Reynolds is not the only Marvel star whose new film (produced by Paramount) has found a new home: As relevant industry magazines now report, Amazon “Without Remorse” secured a “Black Panther” star Michael B. Jordan even a wacky movie (including in Germany).

The thriller, which will appear in this country under the title “Tom Clancy’s Gnadenlos” (based on the novel of the same name *), is said to be the first film about ex-Navy SEAL John Clark (Jordan), which has been a cult in numerous thriller novels since 1988 – Author Tom Clancy occurs. “Sicario 2” director Stefano Sollima was responsible for the production.

It remains to be seen whether the film will still come to German cinemas as planned or whether it will appear directly on Amazon Prime Video *. Because the film is being shot in Germany, it is also supported by local subsidies, which are often tied to a theatrical release – even for several months.

The last scheduled theatrical release of “Tom Clancy’s Merciless” is February 25, 2021.
